My entire life has been a war
I have been living through a genocide. My entire life has been a war. Even though my homeland no longer feels fit for human life, and the world keeps moving on no matter what happens to me, I continue to endure. I am always anxious that a group of people walking by or standing in front of me might be targeted. I keep thinking about it, and I keep looking at the sky.
Even though I have felt extremely tired and anxious, I have continued to live my life my way, the way I wanted. I am still myself, and I believe I am even better than I once thought I could be, because I chose to live as a decent human being, and because | was seen and heard by other decent human beings.
Last night after our workout, my friend Moaz told me he dreams of traveling the world and becoming a champion. He also said that everything a person hopes to do here never sees the light or comes close to being achieved.
I'm sharing these moments so you can understand me better, and to ask for your support. If you can, please support the links in my bio. Preorder my book, where I share everything I have lived through since the genocide began. And if possible, support the fundraisers: one for my family, one for my friend Moaz's family, and one for my camp to help others in need.
A young man came in carrying a bullet. He said he had been shot a long time ago, and that it had settled somewhere at the back of his throat. He showed me his X-ray, and the bullet was actually there.
Today, he literally coughed it out, and he's now fine.
My friend told me he felt so devastated an overwhelmed last night that he thought about going beyond the yellow line to end his life.
He usually calls me when he's feeling bad, but that night he didn't.
I don't think he would actually go through with it, but it shows how dark and hopeless he's been feeling about everything.
I can understand why he feels that way.
