Excuse me, I must rest now.
I feel as though I've been hit by a bullet in my stomach, or as though I've absorbed just a little of the pain my cancer patients endured today. I feel all the pain. I feel everything, except the unkindness. I feel everyone, except the insensitive ones.
My heart is heavy tonight, and my body is sick. I must ask for your help now.
First, pray for me and my family. Pray for everyone enduring the pain of losing their loved ones. Feel us. Be free, be ready, and let's be together. Be kinder than you have ever been. Help the people. Hold my hands. Let us feel safe.
I'm four hours away from finishing my 24-hour shift, and I feel like shit.
Working as an emergency doctor can be life-threatening. Yet, as an emergency doctor, I also feel that this work allows me to witness some of the most genuine kindness and compassion human beings are capable of.
And give, as much as you can. Give to the people. Shelter a child from bullets. Witness a nation traumatized by a genocide that does not end.
Please give to WHN today.
Recently, we have been able to provide fans for the emergency room, wheelchairs for the emergency and nephrology units, and wheelchairs for adults and children with disabilities in the camp we have been supporting. We have also provided glucometers and plastic chairs for where I work and for the pediatric emergency department, as well as tents for vulnerable families in my camp.
We have been providing relief to more people than you can imagine.
Alhamdulillah.
Please keep helping me help others.
There have been no kites in the sky these days, only warplanes and weapon carrying drones.
When I was a kid, I used to make my own kites and fly them high into the sky. Even as I grew older, I never lost the joy of seeing kites flying above me. Now, that simple joy is being threatened with disappearing, perhaps forever.
I've never seen anything that pulls us together quite like sickness does. It brings the kindest and wisest parts of us closer to one another. A sick person is desperate for some kind of help, while a healthy person is eager to offer a kind hand and make space for the sick.
Being sick myself this morning, I've come to think that one of the most profound signs that a human being is truly alive is when others are taking care of them in their most vulnerable moments.
