We have come to feel worthless

Before leaving my shift this morning, a father arrived carrying his newborn baby, dead from the cold. Read that again. And last night, I saw a woman arrive in the cold, in labor pain, and she had to be transferred to another hospital to give birth there.

Babies, born after their families survived a genocide, born during a ceasefire, in this so-called cold peace, are now dying from the cold. And over the last two years, I saw that the best solution humanity seems able to offer is for the families here, to stop having babies.

I have no comment on what happened today in Sydney except this: Is there another great Ahmad Al-Ahmad in the world, someone brave enough to save Gazan babies from freezing to death? Or are they simply not as important as non-Gazan babies, so their lives and deaths do not matter?

A child killed by unavoidable causes anywhere else is a tragedy. A child killed here by completely preventable causes is treated as nothing worth worrying about.

We have come to feel worthless. Everything we do to survive, everything we do to help others survive, everything we endure and everything we lose is deemed insignificant, because it did not bring us peace.

We are made to believe that two million of us are worth less than one dead soldier of theirs.

We are made to believe that we are just a trend amongst others. And when the trend fades, we will all be forgotten.

We are made to believe that this is unsurvivable, and that we ourselves are unlivable. What more must we show the world to prove our humanity, to prove that we deserve mercy?

Will we ever live lives with less torture? Even these words feel insignificant, as if they will change nothing.

I've decided that my team and I will continue to support our camp. We will gather as many donations as possible to buy winter clothes for newborns and babies at risk of dying from the cold, as well as base-layer clothing for children and their families, and, if possible, warm socks. We are also planning to include cold medicine.

Who will help us spread the word and make this happen? The warm hearts Nusierat's campaign's link is in my bio.
