Today, I met Dr. lan; a kind and compassionate emergency doctor from Canada who promised months ago that he would do everything he could to come to Gaza and help. My family and I invited him for lunch, and it truly felt like a different kind of day. He felt peace, love, and welcome, and we felt lucky and honored to have him with us.
But after we returned from a short trip to the beach, I was overcome by a deep sadness. I spent a joyful and peaceful day; while so many people were drowning in the rain inside their tents. A crushing guilt took over me; my home is still standing, not 'demolished', by a missile like so many homes that were once warm and safe.
That guilt quickly turned into something else: a strong and urgent sense of responsibility. Right now, we must do everything we can to help as many families as possible in my camp, A-Nuseirat camp.
In the past few months, this platform; one that genocide forced upon me, allovwed me to support many families and help hundreds of children get jackets, clothing, and shoes. But all those efforts drowned in the rain when the tents collapsed. And now, we must try again. This is the least we can do.
I've seen how, during wildfires in America, people donated quickly and generously to one man who lost his home, while here, children freeze and starve unnoticed.
This cannot continue. Every human being deserves compassion and dignity. Every child deserves warmth and life. No child should be buried under war or soaked in rain for three winters ina row.
Please; do whatever you can. Help us turn this appeal into real warmth, real protection, and real relief.
My friend Elisa Gkerdawrakka from Scotland is helping organize the campaign and process donations. My friend Aboud aboudbaroud will help me buy the blankets and waterproof sheets and distribute them immediately. And you can help by sharing this widely, and donating if you are able.
Thank you. I hope we save warmth, and we save lives. You can find the link to the campaign in my bio.
